Lindsworth's Ofsted reports

Dear Parents,

I have had a request from a parent for a link to our Ofsted reports, as they had some difficulty finding them. Lindsworth is inspected every year as it has a Residential section. These reports can be found at:

 http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/CARE/SC017171

Ofsted also inspect the school on a 3-yearly cycle, looking at the quality of the education provided. The most recent report was written in 2009 and can be found at

 http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/ELS/103632

For the 2009 inspection the school was judged to be Satisfactory. For the 2010 and 2011 Social Care Inspections, the school was found to be Good.

Best wishes,

David McMahon, Headteacher.

Lindsworth School Student Council.

Lindsworth schools student council has been revamped and re-launched.  At its helm Trevor Francis and Jim McRobie help run the meetings that will be held once every half term. The object of the council is to give our pupils a forum to voice concerns and bring forward reasonable ideas. In very basic terms our aim is to improve the school in any aspect where we can be influential.

Every home is represented by its volunteer council members. This is reflected by the staff. Both Trevor and Jim volunteered to take on the responsibility of running the council as has Vanessa Wilson who has kindly agreed to take and produce the minutes of the meetings.

The council met for the first time this month and set out its aims and raised some interesting and exciting points that we look forward to prioritising at our next meeting after we come back to school after half term.

“This is our chance to do something positive for the school” said Khy-lus Carter, year 7.

Impact and Causes of ADHD by Dr Madan Mall

Dear Parents,

Our resident Counselling Psychologist, Dr Madan Mall, has recently had an article  published in Secondary Education (SecEd) magazine. The article talks about the impact and causes of ADHD. As you may be aware, many of the children at Lindsworth have this condition. If you would like to read the article the online version is at

Best wishes,

South Area Network Training - February 2 2012

Daer Parents,

In common with most of the secondary schools in the Birmingham South Area Schools Network, Lindsworth School will be closed on the afternoon of the 2nd February from 12.30. This is to allow colleagues from different schools to meet, share good practice, and take part in training to ensure they maintain high standards in their work.

If you have any questions about this then do get in touch.

David McMahon Headteacher.

Mobile phones

Dear Parents,

 Mobile Phones

The school has a clear policy on mobile phones. We don’t want your child bringing a phone to school. This is because of problems of bullying, theft, and distraction during lesson times when calls are made or received. They do not add to your child’s education at this school.

If you child brings a phone to school it is  a requirement that they hand the phone over to a member of the Care Team at the beginning of the day. Pupils are welcome to use their phones during break times, but there is no reason for them to have them with them during lessons.

If you need to contact your child urgently you are welcome to contact the school on 0121 693 5363. You can also contact us via our webpage, where messages are quickly emailed through to the right person.

Please remind your child that if they bring a phone to school they are expected to hand it in to Care staff at the beginning of the day. We have had some recent incidents where pupils have refused to follow school rules and it makes for a bad start to the day. We want your support in this.

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact me.

 Best wishes,

David McMahon,Headteacher.
