Movember - Mens Health and Prostate Cancer

Dear Parents and Friends of Lindsworth,

A team of colleagues at Lindsworth are fundraising for Movember - a charity for men's health focussing on prostate cancer. The topic will be covered in assembly later this month, and we look at health as part of our normal curriculum. If you are planning on donating to Movember, which involved sponsored mustache growing, then please donate to our team. This is easy to do at

Best wishes,

This week's theme: Blood, sweat and tears.

 Dear Parents,

The theme in assemblies this week is "Blood, sweat, and tears." Yesterday Heath delivered an assembly looking at the dedication of boxers, who devote months and even years of their life to matches that last at most 36 minutes. This morning my assembly looked at two people who through persistence became very successful. They were Winston Churchill and Johnny Wilkinson. Churchill, shortly after becoming Prime Minister, gave a speech where he said he "had nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat." He also said that he faced the task he had, of defeating the Nazis, "with buoyancy and hope." That is what we all have to do when faced with adversity.

Johnny Wilkinson is a famous rugby player. He was feared due to his excellence in kicking penalties under pressure. He got so good at this skill, through persistence and hard work. This is something that we can all do. In practice he missed the target probably more times than anyone else, but that persistence in practicing meant he got really good at what he does. And that is something that we need to do, in our lives, and in our work. If you struggle with reading, or maths, or any of the subjects, the breakthrough will come if you are persistent. And we will help you get there.

Winston Churchill said “Never Give Up!” Remember that nothing takes the place of persistence, whether that is talent, genius, education, or anything else. Be persistent.

Best wishes,

David McMahon, Headteacher.

ACTION AGAINST DRUGS

Dear Parent/Carer

We want to better educate the children in school about the consequences of taking drugs. We aim to run an event as part of our Personal and Social Education curriculum.

The event will consist of West Midlands Police coming to the school with sniffer dogs, who will then try to find any drugs on the premises.

We will not inform the children of exactly when this is going to happen, as we think we will get the message across more strongly if they see this happen when they do not expect it,  but we do want parents to know that this is part of our education programme.

If you have any questions about this matter then please do contact the school for further details.

Best wishes,

David McMahon, Headteacher.
