The teaching of Science at Lindsworth is addressed in a sensitive manner encouraging students to learn through investigation and practical activities.
The department consists of a laboratory and an independent workroom equippped with an interactive smartboard, which allows teaching to be delivered effectively while embracing different teaching and learning styles. The school's grounds also lend themselves to field study in a safe environment.
The school is engaged in the teaching of the 'Key Stage 3 Strategy', which has been beneficial for our pupils who may have missed parts of their education. This strategy, in conjunction with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) schemes of work, enables the teacher to map introduction and progression - allowing the students to 'top up' possible uncovered areas of their study.
At Key Stage 4 all pupils are encouraged to take the Entry Level qualification, which has proved to be a great success. The more able pupils also participate in the Single Science Award at GCSE which is sensitively matched to entry level. Pupils have enjoyed considerable success in both of these qualifications.
The Science Department also supports FOCUS, and independent area of study based on the Lindsworth campus where, again, considerable success has been achieved with students who have also missed areas of their education.
